If you currently receive a residential kerbside bin collection and are paying the domestic waste service fee as part if your rates you can use our new BinDay application to find out when your next bin collection will take place.


This will allow you to search for your address to find your bin next collection date and information.

How Does BinDay Application Work?

  • Type your address into the search field. It should start to suggest address options based on what you type in.
  • Select your address from the options provided.
  • Your next bin pick up date will appear along with a graphic depicting what coloured bins will be collected on that date.

 

Why have I Received an Error Message in the BinDay Application?

If you we are unable to provide a domestic waste service to your address or you do NOT pay the domestic waste service fee as part of your rates your address will not provide next collection information in our BinDay application.

What days are my bins collected?

To find out your bin collection day, use our interactive BinDay application to find details of your next collection date

You can also use our digital Waste Collection Calendar, or pick up a paper version of the calendar from Council's Customer Service Centre, or at the Resource Recovery Centre in Moss Vale.

When do I need to put my bin out for collection?

Please place your bins on the kerbside the night before your collection day.

You can check the next collection date and which bins are being collected using out BinDay application.

What do I do if my bin collection is missed or my bin is lost, stolen or damaged?

If your bin collection has been missed, your bin is damaged or your bins have been stolen, please contact JR Richards on 1300 133 969 or email us at mail@wsc.nsw.gov.au.

Missed bins reported to JR Richards by phone before 12 pm can be collected on the same day.

For any calls after 12 pm, missed bins will be collected the following day.

Missed bin collections need to be reported within 48 hours of the missed service.

Reduce the risk of a missed bin collection service by ensuring that you place your bin out for collection the night before your designated collection day and following Council's other bin placement conditions (see next question for more). 

What are Council's bin placement conditions?

Place your bins on the kerbside the night before your collection day and make sure your bins are presented at least 50 cm apart.

  • Place your bins on the kerbside with the Council Logo facing the road.
  • Ensure there are no cars, trees or overhead wires blocking access to your bins.
  • Remove your bins from the kerbside as soon as possible after they have been serviced.
Do not overfill your bins
  • The lid must close properly
  • Ensure your bins do not weigh more than 70 kg each

Please close your bin lids when placing on the kerbside. This prevent items from blowing out of the bin, prevents items from falling out of the bin when it is being emptied, and stops animals from getting into the bin and pulling rubbish out or knocking the bin over.

Bin requirements for collection including spacing, timing, and weight limits help to reduce missed bins and streamline collections. However unexpected changes to the schedule can still occur, for example due to sick drivers or trucks breaking down.

What can and cannot go into my general waste bin (red lid)?

The general waste bin is used to dispose of items that cannot be recycled or re-used and that is destined for landfill. You can download a leaflet on what can and can't go into the red general waste bin here(PDF, 13MB).

What goes in the Red lid general waste residential bin graphic

The following items CAN be placed in your general waste bin
  • Styrofoam packaging and food containers
  • Broken ceramics, crockery and glassware
  • Nappies
  • Tissues
  • Soft plastics including plastics bags, plastic wraps, chip packets and chocolate wrappers
  • Kitchen food scraps (we recommend composting or worm farming to help reduce food waste sent to landfill)

A number of items should not placed in the general waste bin, as they may be harmful to human health and the environment.

The following items CANNOT be placed in your general waste bin
  • Batteries
  • Construction materials and waste
  • Paint and oil
  • Rocks and soil
  • Medical waste e.g. syringes

Dangerous or problem waste can be taken to the Resource Recovery Centre and Community Recycling Centre to be recycled and disposed of correctly, reduce contamination, divert waste from landfill, and protect the environment and human health.

What can and cannot go into my recycling bin (yellow lid)?

What goes in the Yellow lid recycling residential bin graphic

Recycling can be tricky, consider using the Australasian recycling label. This can help for most waste products and will help reduce our improper disposal and contamination rates. To facilitate recycling, leave plastic lids on product containers and refrain from including plastic items smaller than a credit card, ensuring smoother processing.

The following items CAN be placed in your recycling bin
  • Paper and cardboard
  • Glass bottles and jars
  • Plastic containers and bottles
  • Steel and aluminium cans and tins
The following items CANNOT be placed in your recycling bin
  • Styrofoam packaging and food containers
  • Hazardous chemicals and chemical containers
  • Any items smaller than a credit card
  • Coffee cups (these are plastic lined, and cannot be separated in the recycling process)
  • Soft plastics (plastics bags, plastic wraps, chip packets and chocolate wrappers)

What can and cannot go into my garden organics bin (green lid)?

The garden organics bin is used to dispose of household garden organic waste to be converted into soil conditioner.

The following items CAN be placed in your garden organics bin
  • Grass clippings
  • Leaves (fresh or dry)
  • Agapanthus (whole plant)
  • Flowers and plant off-cuts
  • Prunings, twigs and branches
  • Bark
The following items CANNOT be placed in your garden organics bin
  • Food scraps and leftovers
  • Plastic bags 
  • Cardboard
  • Building or construction materials 
  • Garden hose 
  • Plastic plant pots   

What bins sizes are available (red, yellow and green lid)?

General waste bin (red lid)

Wingecarribee Shire Council offers a range of sizes and collection frequencies of red lid bins to help residents better manage their waste.

Available bin sizes include: 80 L, 140 L, 240 L, with the standard option being 80 L. 

While these bins are usually collected weekly, residents can reduce costs by opting for a fortnightly collection of the 80 L red lidded bin. Collection would be on the same day as the yellow lidded recycling bin.

Garden organics bin (green lid)

Your green lidded bin is a 240 L bin collected fortnightly.

This garden organics collection service allows residents to divert garden waste from around the home and away from landfill, thereby reducing the production of the greenhouse gas methane. 

The recovered garden waste will be processed into a range of mulch products. This process meets AS4454-2012 Australian standards.

Recycling bin (yellow lid)

Wingecarribee Shire Council offers three sizes of yellow lidded bins to help residents better manage their recycling.

Available bin sizes include: 140 L, 240 L and 360 L, with the standard being 240 L.

These bins are collected fortnightly. 

The recycling service is commingled, which means all recyclable items are placed together into one bin. 

How can I change my existing bin service or request a new one?

Wingecarribee Shire Council has a variety of collection services available to suit your needs.

Options for general waste bins (red lid) 
  • 80 L bin collected fortnightly or weekly
  • 140 L bin or 240 L bin collected weekly
Options for recycling bins (yellow lid)
  • 140 L collected fortnightly (only available with fortnightly garbage collections)
  • 240 L collected fortnightly
  • 360 L collected fortnightly

Options for garden organics bins (green lid)

  • 240 L collected fortnightly

Why was a sticker placed on my bin?

To maintain a kerbside collection service, it is important to keep the waste stream clean and contaminant free for all 3 bins. Green stickers are used when a kerbside collection bin has a collection issue. Issues may include:  

  • Your bin might be too heavy, which poses challenges for collection and disposal (maximum weight is 70kgs)
  • There may be contamination items that need to be removed from the bin

If you have had a sticker placed on your bin you will be requested to remove incorrect materials, and may receive a contamination letter notice.  Sometimes the truck does not allocate the bin contamination to the correct property so please let us know if you have receive a letter and feel it may be incorrect.

Are there additional bin collections over Christmas and new years?

Yes, additional recycling bin collections will take place over the Christmas and New Year 2024/25.

Additional collection period: From Monday 16 December 2024 - Sunday 12 January 2025.
