The Private Land Conservation Plan(PDF, 4MB) (2023-2028) has been revised based on the previous Private Land Conservation Strategic Plan which spanned 2014-2019 with an extension to expire in 2023.
The Private Land Conservation Plan reflects the progress that has been made to date and sets Council’s Private Land Conservation program goals and objectives for the next five years. The implementation of the plan and the three-tiered system of engagement with the Wingecarribee Shire community has delivered many positive social and environmental outcomes since 2009.
The three tiers of the program include:
Around 52% of the Shire is privately owned land and a substantial part of the 55,000 hectares of extant (remnant) native vegetation is on private land. The Plan shows strategic alignment with Council’s other plans and strategies including the Environment and Climate Change Strategy and the Community Strategic Plan. For example, the Private Land Conservation programs contribute toward the achievement of the Community Strategic Plan goal of protecting and enhancing our native species, biodiversity, habitats, and natural areas through a coordinated community and all of government approach.
