Project works

Wingecarribee Shire Council has completed the reconstruction of a portion of Range Road, from Tourist Road, Glenquarry, north towards Mittagong for 2.5 kilometers. The roadworks addressed the worst conditions of the road which was in poor condition particularly after the significant rain events in recent years.

The works included:

  • Stormwater pit and pipe installation
  • Subsoil drainage installation
  • Concrete dish gutter construction
  • Road pavement widening and reconstruction
  • Fence and utility relocations
  • Guard-rail installation
  • Road signage upgraded
  • Tree planting, grass seeding and soil scour protection

Background

Range Road is a two lane sealed road with a speed limit of 60 km/hr. It has a traffic count of 607 and a heavy vehicle percentage of 10.28 per cent.

Sections of the road pavement have been found to be in very poor condition including poor drainage, failed asphalt surface and narrow road width.

This road section required new pavement sought for approximately 2 km between George Emery Lane to Tourist Road. The works included the installation of new stormwater drainage and subsoil drainage, fence and service relocations, dish gutter construction, vegetation removal, shoulder widening and associated works.

Range Road is a local road located 5 km southeast of Bowral and Glenquarry and it is the main road that is often used to access Bowral town centre and the Wollongong area.

Community impacts

The road was fully closed during the works, however access to emergency vehicles and residents is being maintained throughout the works. The construction works are staged to ensure minimal disruption and inconvenience to road users and neighbouring properties.

Road users and pedestrians were cautioned to be aware of heavy machinery and workers in the area, follow the changed traffic conditions, and exercise care when travelling through the work zones. Signage will be placed on site to inform motorists.

Completion

On completion the works have improved driving conditions and road safety, upgraded stormwater drainage and improved water quality runoff, increased road pavement life, and enhanced and protected the local environment.

Works were scheduled in March 2023 and completed in June 2024.
