During the flooding events in February and March 2022, the run-off from Chinaman’s creek caused significant damage to the current storm water pipes, headwalls, and road pavement, at Priestley Street in Mittagong. Subsequently, the road and bank channel have suffered erosion and approximately 20 meters of road pavement needs to be reconstructed. To ensure efficient drainage of the creek water, it was necessary to build a drainage structure. The upgrade of the culvert, and associated works were part of the disaster recovery efforts.
Community Impacts
Road users and pedestrians were advised to exercise caution in the presence of heavy machinery and construction workers in the area. When travelling through the work zones it is essential to exercise care and adhere to the altered traffic conditions. A section of the road was closed during the construction period and signs for detours were placed around the area, from Monday 1 July 2024. The Traffic Management Plan was approved by Council. The construction works were undertaken ensuring minimal disruption and inconvenience was experienced by road users and neighbouring properties.
