Earth Flix: Cinema 4 Change

Earth Flix: Cinema 4 Change officially launched in 2024 with the first screening on Wednesday 31 January. Earth Flix was created to bring together our community in a location that is central to the highlands and somewhere we can entertain but also inspire our community.

The film screenings continued for 10 consecutive months in 2024 with over 1200 people booked and always included a short doc and a Q and A following each film with special guests, some local and some involved in the films creation. 2025 will host 4 more excellent films, screening once per quarter.

The films form a film festival of sorts that share environmentally themed stories of loss and resilience, environmental champions, and information on koalas, native forests, sustainable building, regenerative agriculture and more, to help drive activism and inspire our community.

Below is some of the wonderful feedback we've received from our community after they attended a screening of Earth Flix in 2024:

The Giants in March 2024 "Yes it was a very inspirational film and it was so great to learn more about Bob Brown who has been around for so long. He achieved so much with his calm and positive attitude, always with a smile."

Six Inches of Soil in May 2024."I like the fact that you have picked films that give an uplifting message as well as being Australian based. It surprises me how many people still don't understand/know (?) they can play a part in dealing with the climate crisis through their own actions, but it is difficult to find films that aren't 'preaching' and/or scare folk into inaction particularly when it comes to changing attitudes about consumerism."

My Planet Short Docs in June 2024"Really enjoyed the short docos especially the films that updated us on Aboriginal environmental actions and issues and the Glossies in the Mist film at the end." and "This is a great initiative and the organisers are to be commended for their efforts and their passion for the environment. Looking forward to see what is coming up."

Flyways in September 2024."Really enjoyed this initiative as did my husband. We immediately sent messages out to our children and various friends and family. I encourage more of this from Wingecarribee. A great initiative."

Damon Gameau (2040, THAT SUGAR FILM) takes eight kids on the ultimate school excursion: a road trip across Europe to challenge powerful leaders and find solutions to our greatest ecological challenges.

Thank you - 2024!

Advertising of the Earth Flix events was possible with the help of Craig Reucassell following the recording of the advertisement for promotion at our soft launch in December 2023 (see below for original ad). The screenings continued through the year with the unwavering support of Suzannah Cowley and Nigel Christensen of Nviro Media which we are most grateful for, both for the guidance provided but also the wonderful collection of short docs they have created which we shared during many nights.

Some screenings also received support or funding from ABC iView or the Australian Government. The involvement, support and running of the screenings would not be possible without the dedication of multiple members of the Environment and Sustainability Team at Wingecarribee Shire Council. Empire Cinema have been wonderful with their support and flexibility in hosting these events and assistance with promotion. But most importantly of all, these screenings would not have continued for most of the year without community support, so thank you to each and every one of you for turning up and supporting these events.
