Private Land Conservation

Council assists landholders to retain remnant native vegetation and  Threatened Ecological Communities (TECs) on their property with the aim of conserving wildlife habitat and to create connected corridors within and beyond the shire. Investment is guided by the private land conservation strategic plan.

Private Land Conservation Strategic Plan

The private land conservation program is for all landholders within Wingecarribee Shire and particularly for those landholders interested in biodiversity or wildlife conservation.

High value environmental land is particularly important for conservation as are remnants on priority biodiversity corridors, for example the Great Western Wildlife Corridor or the Illawarra Escarpment.

Habitat for Wildlife is a great program for smaller properties such as urban residents interested in wildlife conservation, and Land for Wildlife is for larger properties with 0.5 hectare (around one acre) or more of native vegetation remnants, such as bushland, grassland, wetlands or rainforest. Both programs are free to join.
