Resource Recovery Centre

At the RRC, most products are charged by weight.

It is possible to reduce the cost of disposal by separating different waste products in your load and disposing of them separately in the required locations, however this may mean that you need to be weighed and reweighed several times.

Mixed products are always charged at the highest rate.

If a customer chooses to have their vehicle reloaded, a reload fee will apply.

Sorting of load contents must be done before entering the RRC. Customers are not permitted to separate the contents while they are on the ground.

Any items unloaded together will stay together and be charged at the highest rate for the relevant products.

If a particular waste type is disclosed at the weighbridge and is found, on inspection, to be contaminated with hazardous products such as asbestos, other procedures and charges will apply. 

If the load is contaminated with asbestos and is unable to be handled by RRC staff, an accredited Asbestos Removal Contractor will be engaged to ensure clean-up complies with Work Cover requirements. A certified transport company will be contracted to transport the asbestos contaminated material. The customer will be charged the full cost for the incident plus 10% administration fee.

What is it?

Products that the RRC is able to get recycled as a separated product. Each of the different kinds of products are placed in a different location. Some products can be accepted from residents only.

Important Information Regarding Sorted Recycling.

What is it?

Any product that contains, or is suspected of containing, asbestos. At the Resource Recovery Centre any product suspected of being asbestos will be treated as asbestos unless the customer can provide lab certification that it is not asbestos.

Thousands of products have contained asbestos over the years. The presence of asbestos can only be reliably determined by lab testing.

Examples

Products can include:

• Asbestos wall sheeting

• Cement sheeting "fibro"

• Excavated material with asbestos off cuts

• Floor and ceiling tiles, etc.

• Floor underlays

• Insulation around pipes and wires

• Water/sewage pipes

Important information regarding the transportation of asbestos

Where more than 10m² or 100kg of asbestos is being moved in one load, this movement must be tracked and reported through the EPA. See WasteLocate for further information.

Bringing asbestos to the RRC

All asbestos products must be brought into the Resource Recovery Centre in approved asbestos bags.

What is it?

Paper that is predominantly white, that needs to be securely destroyed.

Important Information Regarding Document Shredding

Documents are placed in locked bins and securely shredded.

Electrical waste items can now be dropped off at the Resource Recovery Centre for free.

The following items are accepted as e-waste;

• Computers, laptops, desktops and tablets
• Monitors and projectors e.g. hard drives, CD drives
• Cables, chargers and cords
• Computer accessories e.g. mice, keyboards, web camera, USBs
• Printers, fax machines and scanners
• TVs (flat screen only)

What is it?

Dry waste that is not reactive and doesn't smell as it breaks down. Includes products with mixed products, which therefore cannot be recycled.

• Bricks

• Excavated natural material (ENM)

• Fibro (with proof of no asbestos)

• Furniture

• Fill

• Glass - Sheet/window

Important information regarding inert waste

Excavated natural material - must be certified to show it does not contain hazardous materials e.g. asbestos, chemicals 

If there is any suspicion that a product is contaminated with asbestos, then it must be treated as asbestos

What is it?

Mattresses containing springs, or springs only.

Important Information Regarding Mattresses

Double ensemble - if both top and bottom layers have springs, then each one is charged separately.

Important Information Regarding Tyres

Tyres must have the rims removed.

Tyres still on their rims will not be accepted for disposal at the RRC.

If you’ve got damaged textiles that aren’t quite right for donating, drop them off to the RRC - FREE of charge.

SCR Group Australia will collect and divert 100% of items from landfill. They’ll be reused, repurposed and rehomed in the communities that need them the most.

A drop-off hub is located within the grounds of the of the RRC.

There is a range of products that cannot be accepted at the RRC. These include:

About Fine Soil Conditioner

• This is a composted soil conditioner to be used in soil remediation and rejuvenation

• The particle size is 1-15mm

• It is NOT suitable for use with phosphorus sensitive plants

• Apply to a maximum depth of 100mm and incorporate to a depth of 200mm.

About Coarse Soil Conditioner

• This is a composted soil conditioner to be used in environmental remediation applications

• This is a relatively low nutrient compost used to condition soil or may be utilised as a composted mulch.

• The particle size is 15-40mm

• It is NOT suitable for use with phosphorus sensitive plants

• Apply to a maximum depth of 75mm
