Council Joins ‘Get the Site Right’ to Protect Waterways from Construction Pollution

Wingecarribee Shire Council is proud to announce its participation in the Get the Site Right campaign this March, a joint initiative with Water NSW aimed at preventing pollution from construction sites.

The month-long campaign focuses on the critical importance of sediment and erosion control, as well as the secure storage of construction materials, in protecting the natural environment.

Builders waste, including sand, soil, and rubbish, directly contributes to sediment runoff, which pollutes waterways, harms aquatic life, blocks drains causing floods, erodes banks, and carries harmful pollutants, impacting both ecosystems and human health.

Throughout the campaign, Council officers will inspect building sites across the shire, with a focused compliance blitz on Thursday 13 March 2025, to enforce pollution prevention measures.

Wingecarribee Shire Council is committed to protecting the local environment and waterways. To report a suspected non-compliant building site please contact Council by calling 02 4868 0888, or visit www.wsc.nsw.gov.au/Residents/Report-an-Issue

Get the Site Right is a joint taskforce of local councils, catchment groups, and the NSW Environment Protection Authority (EPA), which targets erosion and sediment control on commercial and residential building sites across NSW. Find out more: www.ourlivingriver.com.au/help-the-river/getthesiteright
