Wingecarribee Shire Council is inviting community feedback on a proposal to name the new playspace under construction at the David Wood Playing Fields in Bowral, the “Murraural 4K Playspace”. This follows Council's endorsement to place the naming proposal on public exhibition for 28 days.

The project is a collaborative effort, funded by Wingecarribee Shire Council, the NSW Government’s Stronger Country Communities Fund and local charity, The 4K.  The 4K provides support for children with disabilities or disadvantages and their families in the Southern Highlands.

The proposed name, “Murraural 4K Playspace” reflects the significant contributions from The 4K and the rich Aboriginal cultural heritage of the area.

Murraural (pronounced Murra-Wall) is a Gundungurran word that refers to a nearby waterhole. It honours the local Creation Story of Gurangatch and Mirrigan, which has influenced the playspace's design and features. This name was developed following community consultation, including engagement with the Wingecarribee Aboriginal Network and the Illawarra Local Aboriginal Land Council.

Community members are encouraged to share their feedback via Participate Wingecarribee, Council’s online engagement platform. Visit: https://participatewingecarribee.wsc.nsw.gov.au/murraural4kplayspace

Submissions close on Friday 21 March 2025. Following the public exhibition, a report will be presented to Council for final determination of the playspace name.
