Wingecarribee Shire Council warmly invites community members to celebrate NAIDOC Week with three special events at the Civic Centre on Monday, 8 July 2024.
This year's theme, "Keep the Fire Burning! Blak, Loud and Proud," highlights the enduring strength and vibrancy of First Nations culture. It calls for reclaiming narratives, amplifying voices, and advocating for justice and equality.
The NAIDOC Community events will take place from 10:30 am to 2:30 pm at the Moss Vale Civic Centre, 68 Elizabeth Street, Moss Vale 2577.
Event Schedule:
- 10:30 am: Flag Raising Ceremony (outside Civic Centre), The morning will begin with a Welcome to Country, followed by a Smoking Ceremony and the Raising of the Aboriginal Flag.
- 11:30 am: Keep the Fire Burning! Blak, Loud and Proud Exhibition Opening (The Atrium, Civic Centre), featuring art and design by local contemporary First Nations artists
- 12:00 pm: NAIDOC Family Event (inside Theatrette, Civic Centre), Enjoy a BBQ lunch and a variety of cultural activities for children and young people, including face painting and more.
