Residential flooding in Bowral

Bowral residents in flood affected areas encouraged to participate

Wingecarribee Shire Council is seeking community input into the review of the Bowral Floodplain Risk Management Study and Plan, before Friday 6 December 2024.

The study area is the Mittagong Rivulet and Bevan Place catchment, which is largely bounded by Old South Road and Links Road, through to Oxleys Hill Road.

Council has engaged Royal Haskoning DHV to undertake a review of the existing study and plan, which was prepared in 2009.

Council is committed to proactive flood management and working closely with the community to minimise future impacts.

The Bowral area has experienced significant flood events, including those in July 2016 and March 2022, since the current Floodplain Risk Management Study and Plan was implemented. The review aims to reduce the impacts on residents for similar events in the future.

With new developments in the catchment and updated flood analysis standards, a review using contemporary methods is essential to ensure the ongoing safety and resilience of the community.

The community is encouraged to share feedback and stay up to date in this project by visiting Council’s online engagement platform Participate Wingecarribee. The project page is available at: https://participatewingecarribee.wsc.nsw.gov.au/bowral-floodplain-risk-management-study-and-plan-review

The feedback will be used to inform the plan, which identifies ways to manage flooding and its consequences in the long term.
