Community Voices Heard: 2,900 Submissions on Moss Vale Plastics Proposal
The Independent Planning Commission NSW has closed its public submission period for the proposed Moss Vale Plastics and Recycling Facility, receiving over 2,900 submissions by the deadline of 5 pm, 25 November 2024.
The submission period, which began on 11 October, was extended to accommodate high community interest with an additional public meeting day. This resulted in a total of 45 days for community members to share their views, supported by a three-day public meeting.
The Commission is now actively reviewing all written and verbal submissions. Given the volume of feedback and the complexity of the application, the Commission has advised that a determination will not be made before the end of 2024.
Commission Chair, Mr. Andrew Mills, highlighted the importance of ensuring thorough consideration of all relevant matters in determination of the application, including the community’s views.
“Community engagement is critical to the effectiveness of the Commission’s work. We now have the task of reviewing and considering all written and verbal submissions in our deliberations and determination of the application,” Mr Mills said.
“The Panel will take the time necessary to ensure all relevant matters are fully considered prior to any determination being made, and we appreciate the community’s patience and understanding during this time.”
Wingecarribee Shire Mayor, Cr. Jesse Fitzpatrick acknowledged the overwhelming community response to the proposal:
“The large number of submissions reflects the strong interest and concern; we and our community have for this proposal. It’s crucial that the views of residents are heard and understood by the Independent Planning Commission’s deliberations. Council will continue to advocate for transparency and thorough assessment to ensure the best outcomes for our Shire.”
Wingecarribee Shire Council acknowledges the strong community response to this matter and will continue to provide updates as they become available.
