Council Secures $500K grant for the Electrification of Moss Vale Aquatic Centre

Wingecarribee Shire Council is thrilled to announce it has secured a $500,000 grant from the Federal Government’s Community Energy Upgrades Fund (CEUF) to electrify the Moss Vale War Memorial Aquatic Centre.

The funding will enable Council to replace the existing gas boilers with electric heat pumps for water heating, improving the centre’s energy efficiency and reducing its carbon footprint.

The project will reduce Council’s overall gas usage by 88% and is estimated to reduce annual CO2 emissions by 517,000kg, a 55% decrease in the Council’s overall emissions (excluding sewer and water treatment plants).

Wingecarribee Mayor Jesse Fitzpatrick said that the electrification of the Moss Vale Aquatic Centre will also result in a reduction in costs.

“This upgrade is projected to deliver significant annual cost savings of around $170,000, allowing us to reinvest those funds back into our community. We greatly appreciate the Federal Government's support and look forward to its successful implementation,” he said.

Hot Water Heat Pumps are highly efficient, heating water by extracting heat energy from the surrounding air, even in colder temperatures. Requiring only electricity and airflow, these systems produce no carbon dioxide emissions.

The project is scheduled for completion by March 2027, with an estimated total cost of $1 million.

Wingecarribee Shire Council is committed to creating sustainable and resilient communities.
