As the Local Government Election approaches, Wingecarribee Shire Council reminds candidates and supporters to adhere to electoral material requirements.

Election signage and material cannot be displayed on or within land or buildings occupied, used by, or under the control or management of the Crown, NSW Government agencies, or Council.

All signage that does not meet the above criteria will be removed by Council officers.

Advertising on private land or buildings can only be undertaken with the written consent of the owner. The signage must also meet the requirements under the State Environmental Planning Policy (Exempt and Complying Development Codes) 2008.

Wingecarribee Shire Council General Manager Lisa Miscamble emphasises the importance of following these guidelines: “Unlawful election material, including signs on telegraph poles, fences and other public property contributes to the visual pollution of the Shire and can harm the local environment,”

“Erecting signage can also present a significant safety risk, particularly when they are placed in high traffic areas or on electrical assets,” she said.

Lisa encourages candidates to familiarise themselves with election signage guidelines to ensure that all campaign materials are displayed legally and responsibly.
