Festive Fun for All in Wingecarribee Shire

Wingecarribee Shire is set to dazzle this Christmas season with a spectacular array of illuminations, events, and activities to bring the community together in celebration. 

Santa’s Grotto, located in the Senior Citizens’ Hall at Corbett Garden will once again be a highlight of the festive season. Thanks to the support of C3 Destiny Church, from 17 to 24 December, families can join in the fun and even experience a magical encounter with Santa himself with FREE daily photo’s between 5pm to 9pm! In addition to Santa’s Grotto you can enjoy:  

  • Festive Fun Day: Saturday 21 December, 10am – 3pm and 5pm – 9pm. Featuring: face painting, kids Christmas crafts, sausage sizzle and more!  

  • Evening Carols in the Park: 21 December, 7pm – 9pm. Join the Highlands Theatre Group choir in a joyous sing-along of classic Christmas songs.  

  • Christmas Eve Activities: 24 December, 10.30am - 2pm. Featuring: face painting, kids Christmas crafts, sausage sizzle and more! 

  • Christmas Eve Carols: 24 December, 6pm – 9pm. Groove the night away with an ABBA Christmas and Elvis’ Blue Christmas. 

Corbett Gardens will complement the festive atmosphere with pops of festive lights and a speaker system to broadcast all your favourite Christmas tunes. 

This December, Corbett Plaza, Bowral will be a glow, featuring a stunning Christmas tree, decorative lights, and beautifully illuminated planter boxes. 

Festive cheer will also spread to Mittagong and Moss Vale. Mittagong’s Main Road median will be illuminated with fairy lights, and a Christmas tree will be located at the Destination Southern Highlands Welcome Centre. Moss Vale will sparkle with festive lights in Leighton Gardens and a centrally located Christmas tree. 

To help festive spirit reach every corner of the Shire, Council has donated a total of $31,000 to villages across the Shire as part of its Christmas Grants Scheme. This initiative empowers village associations to fund a variety of festive activities, from dazzling light displays to heartwarming community gatherings.   

Pop-Up Carols and Library Activities:  

  • Pop-up carols will bring music and joy to Moss Vale, Bowral, Robertson, Mittagong, Wingello, and Berrima from 1 to 22 December. 

  • Christmas Storytime and Craft sessions will keep kids entertained at libraries in Moss Vale, Bowral, and Mittagong throughout December. 

Wingecarribee Shire Mayor Jesse Fitzpatrick encouraged community members share their feedback and come together to enjoy the festivities.  

“Council has committed to an evaluation of the Christmas program following this year’s activities with the community,” said Mayor Jesse Fitzpatrick.  

“We will be encouraging everyone to share their feedback and ideas for future Christmas activations in the Southern Highlands. A report on the program’s outcomes will be presented at Council’s March meeting. Let’s come together, celebrate, and help shape the future of our festive season.”
