Local Organisations Receive Council Funding to Improve Waste Management

Wingecarribee Shire Council is pleased to announce the successful recipients of the 2024/25 Community Waste Financial Assistance Scheme. A total of $35,250 has been allocated to ten local organisations to support their waste management initiatives.

The scheme, which aims to assist community groups with waste disposal costs associated with their operations, received a strong response from the community. A rigorous assessment process was undertaken to determine the successful applicants.

We are delighted to support these deserving organisations,” said Lisa Miscamble, General Manager, Wingecarribee Shire Council. “These grants will help them continue their valuable work in the community while promoting sustainable waste management practices.”

The successful recipients are:

  • Bowral Men’s Shed
  • DIY Families
  • Moss Vale Men’s Shed
  • Southern Highlands Community Hospice
  • Connect Christian Church – Connect Community Op Shop
  • Meals on Wheels Southern Highlands
  • Penrose Rural Fire Brigade
  • Salvation Army Southern Highlands
  • Moss Vale Community Gardens
  • Yerrinbool Community Group

An additional $19,750 has been allocated to the General Manager for discretionary grants to support other community initiatives throughout the year.

Debbie Smith from Southern Highlands Meals on Wheels said, “We really appreciate the support this 2024/25 Community Waste Financial Assistance Scheme provides us. All support for our service helps us to meet the needs of our aging community and keep the cost of meals as low as possible. Providing healthy and nutritious meals with a side of social support and well-being monitoring is the core of what we do and this funding will help us continue this service whilst also reducing landfill and increasing recycling.”

Council encourages community members to adopt sustainable waste management practices and to support local organisations in their efforts to reduce waste and protect the environment.
