Wingecarribee Shire Council is excited to announce the start of construction for a new all-inclusive playspace in Bowral. Scheduled to commence in January 2025, this state-of-the-art facility on Boardman Road, near the David Wood Playing Fields, aims to provide a welcoming and accessible space for families, children, and visitors of all abilities.

You asked, and we listened. Informed by extensive community feedback, the playground design prioritises inclusivity and accessibility to create a space for everyone to enjoy.

Key features include a learn-to-ride track, pump track and water play, as well as an inclusive zipline, see-saw and swing. There is a shaded imaginative play area that caters to infants, and monkey bars provide exciting challenges for older children.

The playspace design draws inspiration from the Gundungurra Creation Story of Gurangatch and Mirragan.

Wingecarribee Shire Mayor Jesse Fitzpatrick that the play space was an exciting addition for families across the Shire and an impressive new destination for visitors.

“This highly anticipated playspace provides opportunities for community connection and play for people of all ages and abilities,” said Mayor Fitzpatrick.

“Our community has been waiting for this for a long time. Collaboration has been integral to the delivery of this project. It's incredibly rewarding to see the ideas and feedback of our community reflected in the final design. I can't wait to see it come to life,” he said.

This project is collectively funded by the NSW Government through the Stronger Country Communities Fund and local charity, The 4K, in partnership with Wingecarribee Shire Council.

The 4K provide support for children who are disabled or disadvantaged, and their families within the Southern Highlands.

President of The 4K Jason Lewis said, "The 4K are excited to be involved in a project which provides capacity for children and young people with disabilities to play alongside their friends and siblings in an environment which has been inclusively designed to maximise that opportunity.

“The many supporters of the 4K within our community have made our involvement possible and we are delighted by and appreciative of their ongoing support,” said Mr Lewis.

Lamond Contracting was awarded the contract to build the playspace, and it is estimated to be completed in June 2025.
