Kaleidoscope Festival Program and Road Closure Details

Wingecarribee Shire Council is pleased to announce the full program for the highly anticipated Kaleidoscope Festival 2024, set to take place on Saturday, 16 November 2024, from 11:00 AM to 7:00 PM. Made possible by a $150,000 grant from the NSW Government's Open Streets Program led by Transport for NSW, this all-day, family friendly event will bring live entertainment, cultural experiences, interactive art, and a delicious array of international food.  

Festival Entertainment Program  

Attendees can look forward to a carefully curated lineup of performances including choirs, dance groups, and cultural showcases on the stage and roaming the crowd. Featured acts include: 

  • 11:30 AM – 12:00 PM: Serendipity Choir 

  • 12:00 PM – 12:30 PM: Indian Drumming Band  

  • 12:30 PM – 1:30 PM: Vocal Muster & Richard Lane 

  • 1:30 PM – 1:45 PM & 2:15 PM – 2:30 PM: Song Weavers  

  • 1:40 PM – 2:10 PM: Spanish Flamenco Dancing  

  • 2:30 PM – 3:00 PM: Zumba with Stacey  

  • 3:00 PM – 3:30 PM: Bonnie Contemporary Dance Group 

  • 3:30 PM – 4:30 PM: Southern Highland Irish Dance  

  • 4:30 PM – 5:00 PM: Samba Ninja  

  • 5:00 PM – 5:30 PM: Southern Highlands Jazz 

  • 5:30 PM – 6:00 PM: Chinese & Vietnamese Lion and Dragon Dance  

  • 6:00 PM – 7:00 PM: Raising the Bar Choir with Darren Percival 

With exciting performances like Stah from Zero Circus popping up in three 5-minute sets throughout the day, there will be plenty of surprises to enjoy. 

International Flavours 

Indulge your taste buds with a diverse range of culinary delights from around the world. From classic American BBQ to authentic Spanish paella, there's something to satisfy everyone. Enjoy delicious burgers, loaded fries, and tasty crepes, or savour the flavours of Nepal, India, Mexico and the Balkans. 

Art and Community Activities 

The festival will feature unique interactive art experiences, including proud Gunai Woman, Kirli Saunders (OAM). Kirli is a multi-award-winning writer, artist & consultant. and will be leading festivalgoers through a collaborative weaving piece, using this creative project to celebrate stories and promote First Nations culture.  

The festival will feature unique interactive art experiences, including the Waste to Art project, where local artist Al Phemister invites the community to contribute to the largest sculpture ever seen in the region - a 2.5-metre bird with a 3-metre wingspan made entirely from repurposed materials. Attendees can help create feathers for this monumental artwork. 

Jenny McCracken, Australia’s most awarded pavement artist, is celebrated for her stunning 3D chalk art creations that bring spaces to life. Known for her intricate and immersive designs, Jenny will be showcasing her talents at the Kaleidoscope Festival, where she will create a captivating 3D artwork inspired by the unique beauty of the Wingecarribee. Audiences can watch her artistic process unfold throughout the festival, as she transforms the pavement into a visual journey 

Visitors can also participate in the Letters of Love Project, led by local artist Negin Chahoud, where they write letters of encouragement inspired by her journey through motherhood and her experiences as a refugee. 

Road Closures 

To ensure a safe environment, several streets in Mittagong will be temporarily closed on Saturday, 16 November from 6:00 AM to 11:00 PM.  

Bowral Road’s westbound lane between Hume Highway and Bessemer Street, Princes Street between Bowral Road and Regent Lane, Regent Lane Car Park, Ward Lane, and the internal car park between Bowral Road and Old Hume Highway. The Regent Lane Car Park will be closed from Friday, 15 November at 6:00 PM. 

The Mitre 10 car park is accessible via Princes St and is reserved for Mitre 10 customers only and is not available for event attendees. Traffic management staff will be present to guide visitors and manage the pedestrian flow. 

Traffic will be rerouted to facilitate access 

The light vehicle detour between Old Hume Highway and Bowral Road will take place via 

Bessemer Street, which is located to the south-west of the closure location. Light vehicles will be detoured along Bessemer St, which has traffic signals at the intersections with Old Hume Hwy and Bowral Rd and Fitzroy St. This will assist with the flow of diverted traffic.  

Heavy vehicles will be detoured via Old Bowral Rd and Cavendish St, which are local council roads capable of carrying B Doubles and other heavy vehicles.
