Wingecarribee Shire Council is proud to launch Breaking Barriers Wingecarribee—a new initiative designed to make local sport more inclusive, accessible and welcoming for everyone in our community.

The program, funded by PlayWell – Australia’s Sports Participation Strategy, will kick off with a seminar on Making Local Sports Accessible on Monday 28 April 2025, from 6pm to 7.30pm at the Renwick Community Centre.

The seminar is a valuable opportunity for coaches, club presidents, parents, service providers, and anyone passionate about creating more inclusive sporting environments in the Wingecarribee Shire to connect and learn practical strategies that can be implemented.

Attendees will have the chance to hear from keynote speaker Sam Tait, a distinguished Australian Paralympian and Chevalier College Alumni. A Paralympic sit-skier who debuted at the PyeongChang 2018 Winter Games and continues to strive for gold, Sam is also a dedicated CrossFit enthusiast and Mittagong resident.

This event is the first step in a series of initiatives under the Breaking Barriers Wingecarribee program.

Mayor Jesse Fitzpatrick said the program is about creating real opportunities for everyone in the Shire to get involved in sport, no matter their background or ability.

“Inclusive sports build stronger communities, healthier lives, and a sense of belonging, but local clubs need support, resources, and connections to make it happen—especially with their busy schedules. This program was designed with that in mind,” he said.
