Commuters and residents in the Southern Highlands will be pleased to hear that the complete stretch of Old South Road will be open to traffic this weekend. The third and final stage of rehabilitation works are nearing completion. Stage 3 encompasses the 1.3 km section from the Aylmerton intersection towards the Old Hume Highway.

While the complete stretch of Old South Road will be open to traffic from 5pm Friday, 5 July, motorists can expect temporarily reduced speed limits along the 1.3km section to allow for the finalisation of Stage 3 works. These final works, including line marking and marker post installation, are expected to be completed by mid-July.

The rehabilitation project offers a significant upgrade for commuters and residents with road stabilisation and resealing, road widening and guardrails. Importantly, the project incorporated improved drainage measures, making the road better equipped to withstand future heavy rain events. With 14 natural disasters declared for our Shire since 2019, heavy rainfall across the region has significantly impacted Wingecarribee Shire’s 1200km road network.
