The Get Ready Wingecarribee Six-Week Challenge is a free program starting on 23 September. It offers weekly guides to help build fire safety skills in manageable steps. Topics include:

  • Creating a bushfire plan: Know your escape route and evacuation strategy.
  • Home fire prevention: Make your property fire-resistant.
  • Understanding bushfire alerts: Stay informed about fire threats.
  • Building an emergency kit: Be prepared in case you need to evacuate.

Wingecarribee Shire Council General Manager Lisa Miscamble emphasised the importance of community preparedness.

"Our emergency services work tirelessly, but we all have a part to play in keeping our community safe,” said Lisa Miscamble.

“The Get Ready Wingecarribee challenge is a vital tool for our community. By following the guidelines, residents can take proactive steps to protect themselves and their loved ones during emergencies,” added Lisa.

“Now is the time to take action and get ready. I encourage you to share this message with your family and neighbours. Together, we are resilient, and we can build a fire-ready Wingecarribee,” she said.

The Get Ready Six-Week Challenge is open to all Wingecarribee Shire residents. To access the guides and learn more about the initiative, visit: https://www.wsc.nsw.gov.au/events-directory/Get-Ready-Wingecarribee-6-Week-Challenge
