This week, the NSW Labor Government announced an additional $10.8 million for the Moss Vale Bypass project, marking a significant milestone for this critical infrastructure development.

“We are encouraged by this additional funding,” stated Karin Targa, Wingecarribee Shire Council's Director of Service and Project Delivery. “This represents the first dedicated construction funding secured for the project, demonstrating the current NSW State Government's strong support for the Bypass.”

With the design phase now exceeding the halfway point, this funding will enable the Council to finalise the design and commence preliminary construction works.

The funding will also allow Council to incorporate innovative elements into the design. Upon completion of the design and confirmation of a favourable cost-benefit ratio, together with a robust business case, the funding will support early-stage construction works.

“By diverting heavy traffic, we can create a safer and more liveable town centre, while still supporting the growth of key developments like Ashbourne Estate and the Southern Highlands Innovation Park,” added Karin.

The project will provide an alternative route across the Main Southern Railway Line, eliminating height restrictions and flooding concerns. This project will result in a key piece of enabling infrastructure that unlocks the development potential of key employment and housing land in Moss Vale and Bowral. Additionally, an active transport connection, including a shared path, will extend from the Bong Bong Common cycle track to Berrima Road (Moss Vale Cemetery).

Following the completion of the design and finalisation of costs, Council will collaborate with the NSW Government and other stakeholders to secure the remaining funding required for the project's estimated $150 million construction cost.

Wingecarribee Shire Council is committed to delivering the Moss Vale Bypass Project and is grateful for the ongoing support of the NSW State Government. This project will significantly enhance traffic flow, improve safety, and support the future growth of Moss Vale.
