A Year of Impact and Inspiration Reflecting on 2024 and Looking Ahead to 2025
As 2024 draws to a close, it's time to look back on a year full of inspiring events that brought our community together and sparked important conversations about sustainability, environmental action, and innovation. This year, the Sustainability team hosted 19 events each one aimed at making a positive impact on our community and the environment.
One of our highlights was the Earth Flix film series, where we screened 10 powerful, environmentally themed films at the Empire Cinema. Who would have thought that a free film series would capture the hearts of so many? We did, and we are grateful our community responded so positively! The response from the audience has been overwhelming, we are honoured for the support shown. These films sparked meaningful discussions about the planet's future and encouraged everyone to take action. We also held the Southern Highlands Future Forum – Your Energy Future event, where the community gathered to explore ways to build a sustainable energy future for our region and what the future holds for us. The event was a great success, with local experts and residents collaborating on practical solutions for the future. In addition, the Froctober series, aimed at raising awareness of the environmental impact of fashion, saw multiple activities, including a successful clothes swap that promoted sustainable clothing practices. Throughout the year, we also ran educational tours, including a water treatment plant tour which encourages sustainable water use habits and a Seniors Week tour which included a visit to a regenerative farm and a native nursery, both events allowing locals to get hands-on experience with our sustainability initiatives.
Looking ahead to 2025, we are committed to bringing you even more exciting and impactful events, based on what our community has told us they want. From more free film screenings to larger sustainability forums, we’re ready to make next year even better. Stay tuned for a year full of action, education, and inspiration!
