Wingecarribee Shire Council invites you to peek behind the curtain and experience the enchanting world of puppetry with this month’s atrium exhibition, ‘Celebrating the Art of Puppetry’.

Located in the Civic Centre Atrium, 68 Elizabeth Street Moss Vale, this captivating exhibition celebrates the Sydney Puppet Theatre and ImaginArta, showcasing a collection of puppetry works from 1986 to 2024 by Steve Coupe and Sue Wallace, co-artistic directors of Sydney Puppet Theatre.

Discover the artistry, craftsmanship, and technology behind the puppets, which have been lovingly created over the decades. Explore a diverse range of exhibits, including:

  • Photographs of iconic characters from ImaginArta's puppet shows.
  • Actual puppets used in captivating performances.

  • A mesmerizing shadow puppet background set.

  • Wooden and technological models that reveal the intricate processes and ingenious mechanisms that bring complex puppets to life.

"Puppetry is a powerful medium used for centuries to investigate serious ideas – religious and secular, bring wonder and hilarity and as an important teaching tool,” said Sue Wallace.

“Above all, we think it is such a privilege to be able to entertain and inspire people of all ages through this wonderfully expressive art form," she said.
