Let's work together to keep red imported fire ants out of Wingecarribee! We are asking Businesses and Farmers to be aware that The Queensland Government has issued a new order to tackle the spread of fire ants. The Biosecurity (Fire Ant) Emergency Order (No. 9) 2024 was published on 17 July, 2024, updating the fire ant-infested areas.

On 15 June, the Fire Ant Biosecurity Zone map was updated, expanding the infested areas in Queensland and adding a bit more to the area in New South Wales. This affects anyone moving materials that could carry fire ants into New South Wales.

Fire ant carriers include materials and items such as mulch, compost, manure, soil, hay, silage, potted plants, turf, farm equipment, and anything else that might have soil on it. If you are moving these materials out of the infested areas in Queensland or New South Wales, you will have to fill out a Record of Movement. For those moving materials from Queensland, you also need a Biosecurity Certificate from the supplier, confirming that all the necessary treatments and requirements have been met.

There is also a new Group Biosecurity Emergency Permit for moving hay from certain suburbs in South East Queensland. You can find more information and check if your area is included by visiting the Hay, Chaff, and Silage webpage.
