On Tuesday 18 March, Moss Vale Public School's Year 5 and 6 Opportunity Class took an educational tour of the Wingecarribee Shire Council Civic Centre, guided by Mayor Jesse Fitzpatrick.

The visit provided a unique opportunity for students to experience local government firsthand. Seated in the Council Chambers, they participated in a lively Q&A session with Mayor Fitzpatrick and General Manager Lisa Miscamble, gaining insights into how council meetings operate and the decision-making processes that shape their community.

As part of the behind-the-scenes tour, students explored key areas of the Civic Centre, including the Council Chambers, the Mayor’s office, and workspaces where Council staff manage essential services. This hands-on experience highlighted the many ways Council supports the community—from playgrounds and libraries to youth programs and local infrastructure.

Wingecarribee Shire Council is committed to fostering a community where young people feel valued, heard, and empowered. Engaging with civic leaders in this way helps inspire the next generation to take an active role in shaping their community’s future.

This visit was an exciting step in encouraging young minds to consider the impact of local government and their potential to play an active role in it!
