Local high schoolers debate global issues at Model United Nations Assembly
Students from across Wingecarribee Shire showcased their diplomatic skills and knowledge of international affairs at the Southern Highlands Model United Nations Assembly (MUNA) last month. The annual event, held at the Council Chambers and organised by the Rotary Club of Moss Vale and Rotary Club of Bowral and Mittagong, saw twelve teams representing various countries debate pressing global issues.
Chevalier College Secures First Place
Emerging victorious from this year's competition were students from Chevalier College, representing Japan. Their impressive performance earned them a coveted spot at the National MUNA event, taking place at Old Parliament House in Canberra this August.
Building Tomorrow's Leaders
This two-day event provided a valuable learning experience for all participants. Students delved into the complexities of international relations, researched their assigned countries' stances on key issues, and honed their critical thinking, public speaking, and teamwork skills.
Wingecarribee Shire Council Administrator, Viv May, highlighted the significance of MUNA, stating it “challenges students to think critically, articulate arguments effectively, and navigate the complex dynamics of international relations.”
“By representing different countries, students not only learn about diverse cultures and perspectives but also develop crucial skills that will serve them well in their future endeavours,” said Mr May.
MUNA goes beyond competition, serving as a platform for leadership development and global awareness. By representing different countries, students gain an appreciation for diverse cultures and perspectives while strengthening valuable skills for their future endeavours.
Congratulations to all participating schools! Your dedication and hard work in tackling global issues are truly commendable. Special congratulations to the Chevalier College team for their well-deserved victory and the opportunity to represent the Southern Highlands at the national level.
