Southern Regional Livestock Exchange: Driving Local Growth and Connection

The Southern Regional Livestock Exchange (SRLX), a bustling cattle market located in Moss Vale, is more than just a saleyard; it's a vital community asset. Owned and operated by Wingecarribee Shire Council at no cost to ratepayers, it is one of the largest sale yards in New South Wales, handling between 50,000 and 60,000 cattle annually.

Every Wednesday, the SRLX hosts prime cattle sales, generating approximately $1.5 million in business. This significant economic activity contributes to the local economy and provides employment for over dedicated 40 staff members that work tirelessly to ensure animal welfare standards are upheld and sales run smoothly.

Beyond its economic value, sale yards play a crucial role in fostering social connections within the community. Sale days attract crowds, serve as multi-generational events, and provide a gathering place for people who may otherwise feel isolated. These events also offer a valuable platform for service providers to connect with the community and share information.

The SRLX is a fascinating and educational destination. With school holidays approaching, Council and the SRLX Team invite families to visit on a Wednesday to witness the cattle sales. Enjoy the unique atmosphere, learn about the cattle industry, and grab a coffee or hot food on-site.

Local schools can also arrange visits to provide students with a better understanding of the cattle industry and the journey of food from paddock to plate.
