Wingello Village Store Owner Thrilled with New Casburn Park Plans and Surrounding Upgrades
Another piece in the puzzle to Wingello’s Recovery from the 2019/20 Black Summer Bushfires has come with the already completed improvements and ongoing works for the Casburn Park Upgrade and Renewal Project, due to be completed June 2024.
Funded by a $2.5million grant provided by the NSW Government through the Bushfire Local Economic Recovery Fund, the development of the new playground taking place at Casburn Park in Wingello has proven a marked benefit to the Wingello Village Store. Store owner, David Bruggeman, explained “Previously during heavy rain periods, the water would pool near the front area of the shop, making it difficult for customers to get into the building”
“The addition of a new footpath and enhanced drainage has significantly improved the scenario. Now, water smoothly flows past the fire brigade building, reducing the presence of large puddles in front of the store. Additionally, concrete now replaces the previous driveway.” Said David.
David expressed his excitement for the Casburn Park Development, which recently included the installation of all new stormwater and drainage pits, four new 10,000lt rainwater tanks, and a new curb and gutter with a new concrete dish drain in the new parking area. The development includes a new playground and pump track which are still under works.
“The improvements and the construction of Casburn Park will be a great asset to the Southern Villages, along with the Stonemason’s Trail this will be another reason to take the alternative route to other villages in the Southern Highlands.”
"It will give travellers another reason to visit Wingello and our store, giving families a great break on the road” said David.
Wingello Village, along with other nearby villages, suffered greatly during the 2019 bushfire season. Over 30 houses were lost, but with what they call the “Miracle of Wingello,” no one was killed or injured. The money received from the Bushfire Local Economic Recovery Fund, used to build Casburn Park, will certainly help the community move forward and enjoy their village.
David added, "We have greatly appreciated being able to work with the council planners in the adaption of the park plans to better suit Wingello's needs. The children and parents eagerly stand by the fence, waiting for the playground and pump track to be finished!”
