Wedding, Formal Ceremony & Open Spaces Park Application

Book a Park, Garden or Reserve for a Formal Ceremony or Open Space Park Hire request

There is no charge to book a park for either formal ceremonies or one-off events. 

However, a booking does not give you exclusive use of the park, garden or reserve, and you do not have the right to ask people using the area that you have booked to move on. 

Formal Ceremonies

Public parks may be booked for formal ceremonies, such as weddings birthday parties and naming ceremonies.

All gardens, parks and reserves are available for formal ceremonies. Popular parks for ceremonies are: 

Corbett Gardens, Bowral (not available during Tulip Time)

Lake Alexandra Reserve, Mittagong

Leighton Gardens, Moss Vale

Booking a Council Park, Garden or Reserve

Every organisation or individual wishing to hire a Council park, garden or reserve for a formal ceremony must complete the following steps:

By Mail

Step 1.Choose the facility that best suits your requirements

See parks for a list of suitable venues.

Step 2.Liaise with Council’s facilities staff to select the preferred date/s of hire 

The facilities team will pencil in the date/s and the hirer will have 21 days to forward all relevant documentation for the booking to be confirmed.  

Step 3.Complete and collate the required documentation

  1. Completed and signed Booking Request Form for Weddings / Formal Ceremonies or Open Spaces Park Events.  
  2. Complete a Comprehensive risk assessment. To assist you Council has provided a guide for how to complete a risk assessment.  
  3. Additional information and a site plan may be required depending on the nature of your event. 
  4. Ensure that you have read and signed Council’s Formal Booking Guidelines for the hire of a facility before you sign your booking form. 

Step 4.Lodgement of your booking request 

Ensure you have completed and collated all relevant documents and information as outlined in step three.

Step 5.Confirmation of booking

Please note that confirmation will only be given once we have received all of the above documentation and have received payment of any bond required (if applicable). 

If your booking form is fully completed, you should receive an approval letter within 10 working days. If there is another booking that conflicts with your ceremony we will contact you to discuss.

  3. Additional information and a site plan may be required depending on the nature of your event. 
  4. Ensure that you have read and signed Council’s Formal Booking Guidelines(PDF, 46KB) for the hire of a facility before you sign your booking form. 

Step 4.Lodgement of your booking request 

Visit our Civic Centre between 8.30am and 4.30pm weekdays to submit your request and paperwork and pay the bond required (if applicable). 

Step 5.Confirmation of booking

Please note that confirmation will only be given once we have received all of the above documentation and have received payment of any bond required (if applicable).
