Harper's Mansion is listed on the NSW Government Heritage Register as a property of State heritage significance. The house is a fine example of a colonial Georgian residence and is furnished in period style. That the son of a convict and a convict were able to build such a high quality prestigious house in a remote village is fabulous. Tour guides will walk you through the house allowing you to discover how people lived at that time and what an achievement this was. Set in 2 acres of strolling gardens of cool climate heritage plants overlooking the historic village of Berrima, the garden features one of the largest hedge mazes in Australia that is always a hit with the children. An extensive Heritage Rose collection, the Camellia Walk displaying rare old Camellias and the Hazelnut Walk are just some of the features.
Harper's Mansion is open most weekends and welcomes group bookings mid-week. It has a dedicated area and tea room available for hire to small wedding groups, local community groups and family gatherings such as picnics (hampers or takeaway available nearby), birthday parties etc.
Owned by the National Trust (NSW), the house is managed and run by local volunteers. If you want to enjoy working with a very committed community group and contribute to maintaining part of Australia's heritage, please get in touch.
