Anna-Chung

Award winning clarinettist, Anna Chung has curated a program of music that brings to life the chameleon-like character of the clarinet. With an expansive range of sound and colours this instrument is celebrated for its capacity to be used across genres and express a wide expanse of emotions. Anna will be joined by her mother Katherine Shin on pinao.

MEET THE ARTISTS  

ANNA CHUNG is an exciting young clarinetist who has pursued her musical journey in Melbourne, Sydney and internationally. She has been under the tutelage and mentored by Ricardo Morales (Principal clarinet, Philadelphia Orchestra) and Boris Allakhverdyan (Principal clarinet, LA Philharmonic) since attending the Philadelphia International Music Festival in 2018. She has been offered to study MMus (Performance) at the Royal College of Music, London, from September 2025.

Anna holds a BMus from the Melbourne Conservatorium of Music, where she was a scholarship student studying with Mr David Griffiths. Previously, she studied with Dr Deborah De Graaff. Anna was a principal clarinet of the University of Melbourne Symphony Orchestra and Wind Symphony. She has won prestigious competitions and scholarships. Recently, she won second place in the NSW Doctors Orchestra instrumental scholarship and second place in the Sydney Eisteddfod woodwind concerto competition.

Associate Artist: KATHERINE KUM JU SHIN is a pianist and keyboard player. She won numerous local and national competitions and awards in Korea.  After moving to Australia, she dedicated herself to playing the keyboard for Sydney Hosanna Praise & Worship for over 10 years.  She completed her AMusA diploma in 2013.  She frequently accompanies at concerts, auditions, competitions, HSC, IB Music and AMEB exams.  She has been a church choir pianist since she was 10 and continues to do so today
