Where to dispose;
Coffee cups cannot be recycled and should be disposed of in the Council provided general waste bin (red lid).
Australians consume an estimated 1 billion takeaway hot drink cups each year. Most single-use coffee cups are covered in a light plastic layer to hold the cups form and reduce the impact of heat. This plastic layer is why coffee cups can’t be recycled, and if they are put into the council recycling bins, they contaminate the recycling streams.
It is recommended to carry a reusable coffee cup, keep a cup with you or dine in at your local cafes and restaurants.
