Galentine's Gals: A Heartfelt Celebration of Friendship

What is the exhibition about?

In February we will be energising the gallery with a month-long collaborative installation to celebrate Galentine’s Day – a day for celebrating women’s friendships. We'd like to encourage local women’s voices, inspired by the recent Charlotte Project sculpture installation in Berrima, and are inviting as many women as possible to contribute messages on heart-shaped post it notes, to our installation art exhibition held in the Civic Centre Atrium. These messages should express how you feel about a particular friend or about your friendships with other women.

What makes this exhibition unique or different and why is it important community get involved?

Interactive art brings the community together and invites each person to share their experience in an authentic, active and inclusive way. Each woman who visits this short-term installation can contribute to it, making this collective creation unique and site-specific. Ultimately, collaborative artworks are dynamic and empowering. They invite people who do not consider themselves as artists to have creative input into a non-traditional medium, changing the traditional idea of what an the artist is, and allowing all participants taking part to feel empowered and included.

Who and what are you calling for and by when?

Any women in the local community are welcome to come into the Civic Centre and write a message on a heart post-it note. If people wish to make their own hearts to attach to the wall, this is also possible.

Exhibition Dates: 30 January – 1 March 2024.

Participation Criteria

All women who wish to participate and celebrate their friendships can come in to the Civic Centre, grab a post-it note and pen and write a message, reflection or other message on a heart.

Where is the exhibition?

The exhibition will be held in the Atrium of the council’s Civic Centre building in Moss Vale.

How to apply?

No need to apply. This interactive exhibition invites all interested women to participate. The more, the merrier! There is no age barrier, and woman of any age can take part!
